Diego Simeone Blasts FIFA After Julián Álvarez Snubbed From The Best Strikers Shortlist
Diego Simeone Praises Julián Álvarez: “He’s One of the Best Forwards in the World”
Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone had high praise for Julián Álvarez, calling him “one of the best forwards in the world.” Ahead of Atlético’s LaLiga clash against Levante, the Argentine manager highlighted the striker’s importance and urged that the club “take care of him,” after Álvarez was surprisingly left out of the The Best FIFA Award nominees.
“He’s an extremely important player — surely one of the best forwards in the world. He’s ours, we have to take care of him, and hopefully he keeps giving us what he’s been giving — which is a lot,” said Simeone in a press conference.
Julián Álvarez: Atlético Madrid’s Key Weapon Against Levante
This Saturday at the Metropolitano Stadium, ‘La Araña’ Álvarez will once again lead Atlético’s attack against Levante. Simeone issued a warning about the opponent:
“Levante defends very well, they’ve won big away matches, and they have very fast players. We’ll need to take the game where we believe we can hurt them.”
The Argentine tactician also emphasized that both LaLiga and the UEFA Champions League “don’t have easy matches,” recalling recent upsets involving top European clubs.
Simeone Highlights the Mental Strength of His Squad
Simeone praised the mentality and commitment of his players, especially those coming off the bench:
“It speaks very well of their mental preparation. Those who aren’t starters are ready, and that makes us stronger. The team is everyone.”
He also referred to Marc Pubill, one of the players with fewer minutes this season, explaining that his “daily work and commitment” keep him prepared for any opportunity.
David Hancko’s Impact on Atlético’s Defense
The Atlético Madrid coach also highlighted the performances of David Hancko, praising his versatility and defensive reliability:
“He can play both as a full-back and as a center-back. He brings balance and versatility in both roles.”
Diego Simeone Remembers Iván Zamorano
To close the press conference, Simeone shared his admiration for former Inter Milan teammate Iván Zamorano:
“A beast as a footballer and as a person. I have great memories from that time with him.”
