Garcia Pimienta sacked by Sevilla after fourth straight defeat
After four straight league defeats left them seven points clear of the bottom three, Sevilla have sacked head coach Javier Garcia Pimienta.
Sevilla have announced the departure of head coach Javier Garcia Pimienta, two days after they suffered a fourth straight league defeat to Valencia to sit 13th in LaLiga and just seven points clear of the drop.
"Sevilla would like to thank Garcia Pimienta for his work over these months, and his professionalism, wishing him best luck in future endeavours," the club said in a statement.
The 50-year-old Spaniard joined the club on a two-year deal in July 2024, replacing Quique Sanchez Flores.
He had previously led Las Palmas to promotion in 2022-23, before keeping them in LaLiga last campaign.
But he has been unable to replicate this success with the seven-time Europa League champions, winning just once in their last seven league games and losing the all-important ‘El Gran Derbi’ 2-1 to Real Betis in March.
According to reports in the Spanish media, veteran coach Joaquin Caparros is set to take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
The 69-year-old is considered a safe pair of hands, having previously managed the Andalusian club between 2000 and 2005 and having two subsequent spells as caretaker, in 2018 and 2019.
Sevilla’s next test comes against Deportivo Alaves on Sunday, April 20, at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.
