Gavi Refuses to Give Up His Dream: Barcelona Comeback and World Cup 2026 in Sight
The injury didn’t take away his hunger. Gavi is still looking ahead, determined to return, compete and chase his World Cup dream with Spain.
A Tough Recovery, a Clear Goal
Gavi refuses to let injury derail his biggest ambitions. The FC Barcelona midfielder is progressing steadily after undergoing surgery on his right knee in September, with everything moving according to plan.
February remains the key target for his gradual return. No shortcuts, no rushing — just patience and determination as he works toward feeling like a footballer again.
“Everything Is Going According to Plan”
After another individual session at the Ciutat Esportiva, Gavi struck a calm and confident tone. “Everything is going according to plan. I’m meeting the deadlines and so far everything is going very well,” he explained.
The hardest part, he admits, has been mental rather than physical. “What hurts the most is watching my teammates play and not being able to be out there,” he said. From the sidelines, he sees a Barcelona side performing strongly, but he knows the job is far from finished.
Dressing Room Support Makes the Difference
Away from the pitch, Gavi has had to live football from a different perspective — less intensity on matchday, more discipline in the gym. Still, he has never felt alone.
The midfielder has highlighted the constant support he has received from teammates such as Ronald Araújo, Pedri, Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde, a bond that has helped him push through the toughest moments of his rehabilitation.
That sense of belonging has been key in keeping his motivation strong during long and lonely recovery sessions.
The Big Dream: Spain and the 2026 World Cup
Beyond his return to club football, one ambition continues to drive Gavi forward: the FIFA World Cup 2026 with Spain national team.
He has been clear about it: “Going to the World Cup would be very special, that’s what I want. But right now I have to focus on my recovery, finish the season well with Barça, and then hopefully be able to go to the World Cup.”
No rushing, no forcing — but never letting go of the dream. That is how Gavi approaches the most demanding chapter of his young career, convinced that if he returns at full strength, the World Cup will still be within reach.
