Hansi Flick Aims for Another Miracle: Turning Marcus Rashford Into a 30-Goal Striker at FC Barcelona
He’s on loan and coming off a rough patch… but Marcus Rashford could become Hansi Flick’s next great success story. If the German coach works his magic again, Barça might have a new 30-goal striker this season.
Flick’s English project
Marcus Rashford is the latest challenge for Hansi Flick. The English forward, on loan from Manchester United until 2026, arrives in Barcelona with one mission: to rediscover his best form. And if there’s anyone who can make that happen, it’s the German coach, who has a proven record of elevating his attackers. “Rashford can play as an 11 or a 9,” Flick said after the club’s pre-season tour in Asia, where the Englishman already opened his scoring account for Barça.
Back in the 2022-23 season, Rashford recorded 30 goals and 12 assists for United. If he gets anywhere near that again, Flick could have an unstoppable front line in his hands.
A coach who turns forwards into gold
What Flick has done with his attackers at Barça is no coincidence. Since taking over, he’s helped several of them hit career-best numbers. The standout case is Raphinha, who went from inconsistent to producing 34 goals and 25 assists in the 2024-25 season, nearly doubling his previous highs.
Ferran Torres, despite not being a regular starter, also enjoyed his most prolific year with 19 goals and 7 assists, surpassing his output at Manchester City. And then there’s Lamine Yamal, who exploded under Flick with 18 goals and 25 assists, up from 7 goals and 9 assists the season before.
Lewandowski leads the way
Even Robert Lewandowski, a model of consistency throughout his career, had his best-ever season under Flick at Bayern in 2019-20, scoring 55 goals in 47 matches, along with 10 assists. At Barça, now 36, he kept up the pace with 42 goals in 52 games last season.
And it’s not just strikers—Dani Olmo, playing in a more creative role, recorded 12 goals and 7 assists, just one goal shy of his career-best season.
Will Rashford be next?
Hansi Flick may not have a magic formula… but the numbers don’t lie. If Rashford adapts to the system and regains his sharpness, Barça could have another 30-goal forward. The scariest part? If every attacker matches their best seasons under Flick, the front line could combine for 169 goals this campaign. Not bad at all.
