How Much Would Barcelona Save?
Rodri’s arrival comes with an interesting administrative detail: Barcelona would not have to pay the fee associated with a player’s first registration in Spanish football again.
That fee amounts to €57,809, or approximately $67,000. It was previously paid by Villarreal when the midfielder made the jump to the club’s first team.
As a result, Barça will only need to complete the necessary paperwork to register Rodri as part of its squad.
Villarreal Had Already Covered the Fee
Rodri was first registered in Spanish professional football with Villarreal, the club where he developed and made his first-team debut. Later, Atlético Madrid was also not required to pay the fee again.
Now, as he returns to LaLiga with Barcelona, the Catalan club benefits from that previous registration.
The saving is relatively small compared with the overall size of the transfer, but it represents another favorable detail for Barcelona’s finances.
More Details on Rodri’s Transfer
Barcelona are reportedly set to agree a deal with Manchester City worth €60 million in guaranteed payments, plus approximately €11 million in add-ons. That could take the total transfer fee to around €71 million, equivalent to roughly $82 million, depending on the exchange rate and whether the performance-based clauses are met.
As a result, Rodri’s signing represents a major investment for Barcelona, although the club will avoid paying the €57,809 first-registration fee because the midfielder had already been registered in Spanish football earlier in his career.
