Joan Laporta Said Goodbye To His Players And Hansi Flick With A Promise To Return
Amid an active election process, Joan Laporta visited the FC Barcelona squad to say goodbye to the players and head coach Hansi Flick. The former president delivered a message of support — and a promise to return.
The institutional transition at FC Barcelona reached a symbolic moment at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. After stepping down from the presidency in order to run again in the upcoming club elections, Joan Laporta visited the training complex in Sant Joan Despí to personally say farewell to the squad, the coaching staff led by Hansi Flick, and sporting director Deco, leaving behind a message of confidence and a promise to come back.
The visit came at a critical stage of the season, with the team still competing for multiple trophies. Beyond the political implications inside the club, the gesture was designed to project calm and closeness with the locker room ahead of a decisive competitive stretch.
Direct Farewell To The Squad And Coaching Staff
Accompanied by interim president Rafa Yuste and advisor Enric Masip, Joan Laporta spent several hours at the training facilities meeting players and staff members. The former president greeted first-team footballers individually and shared a personal exchange with Hansi Flick, whom he has publicly supported for his sporting leadership.
During his remarks to the group, Laporta praised the team’s competitive mentality and urged full focus on the season’s objectives. Rafa Yuste also addressed the squad, reinforcing the message of operational continuity while the electoral process moves forward.
The meeting took place just before a training session preparing the Copa del Rey semifinal clash against Atlético de Madrid, adding competitive context to the moment.
Strong Backing For The Flick–Deco Project
Before leaving office, Joan Laporta had emphasized in club media the strong working relationship between Hansi Flick and Deco as a pillar of the current sporting structure at FC Barcelona. According to his view, the project successfully blends academy-developed players with targeted external signings.
That balance — along with the technical staff’s organization — was highlighted as one of the club’s recent strengths. For that reason, his farewell carried more than ceremonial value; it served as a public endorsement of the current football direction.
A Return In Mind During Election Season
Joan Laporta’s resignation follows FC Barcelona statutes that require candidates to step down before running again. His departure, alongside several board members, formally opens the road toward the upcoming vote.
Before leaving the complex, he also met with other professional sections of FC Barcelona to say goodbye. The message throughout was consistent: gratitude, encouragement, and forward vision.
