MLS Steps up Pursuit of Robert Lewandowski: United States Looks Set to Be His Destination After Barcelona
The Chicago Fire are determined to sign Robert Lewandowski at all costs. This is not the first time there have been contacts between the MLS franchise and the FC Barcelona striker, and now the American club has intensified its efforts to convince the Polish goal scorer and his family that Chicago is the ideal destination once his contract with Barça expires at the end of the season.
In recent hours, new signs have emerged suggesting that a potential Robert Lewandowski move to the Chicago Fire is beginning to take shape. The franchise claims the club has already presented a first formal offer to the Polish forward: a two-year contract and a salary consistent with his role as a major MLS star.
Chicago intensifies contact with Lewandowski and his camp
The Chicago Fire’s interest in Lewandowski is not new and has been developing for months. In November, Anna Lewandowska, the player’s wife, visited the city and even toured a residential neighborhood — a gesture interpreted as an initial step toward the striker’s possible future destination.
Shortly afterward, in December, a meeting in Barcelona took place between the player’s representatives and a delegation from the American franchise, confirming that talks were becoming serious.
Contacts have continued in recent weeks. According to various reports, the striker’s agent, Pini Zahavi, recently met in London with Joe Mansueto, owner of the Chicago Fire, in a meeting considered key to advancing the deal. Zahavi maintains a close relationship with the franchise, where he also represents Philip Zinckernagel.
Chicago also has a cultural factor that could influence the final decision: the city is home to the largest Polish community in the United States. Throughout its history, the Chicago Fire has featured notable Polish players such as Piotr Nowak, Jerzy Podbrożny, and Przemysław Frankowski, as well as dual-nationality players like Gaga Slonina and David Poreba.
Chicago Fire searching for a marquee MLS signing
The Chicago Fire are aiming to make a major splash in MLS. While awaiting Robert Lewandowski’s final decision, the franchise has explored signing several international stars in recent months, including Neymar, Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, and Bernardo Silva.
The objective is clear: secure a top-level signing in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the Barcelona striker as the main target.
The FC Barcelona striker’s final decision could become one of the most important MLS transfer moves in recent years.
