Real Madrid have been hit by another injury blow after confirming Ferland Mendy suffered a rupture in his right thigh during their Copa del Rey final loss to Barcelona.

Spanish media reports said Mendy could face up to a month on the sidelines, having already missed significant portions of this season with several injuries.

Mendy's latest setback adds to a growing list of absences in Carlo Ancelotti's defence, with Antonio Rudiger also undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday.

"Following tests carried out on our player Ferland Mendy, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the proximal tendon of the anterior rectus in the right quadriceps," Madrid said in a statement.

A hamstring injury suffered in March kept Mendy out for more than a month, while a muscle issue had sidelined him for almost two weeks in December.

He has made 31 appearances across all competitions this season, the fifth-most of any Madrid defender behind Rudiger (50), Lucas Vazquez (47), Fran Garcia (43) and Raul Asencio (38).

Madrid, who are four points off LaLiga leaders Barcelona going into the last five games in the campaign, host Celta Vigo on Sunday. 

They then visit their Clasico rivals for a match that could decide the destination of the title on May 11, as speculation surrounding the future of head coach Ancelotti continues to swirl.
