Scandal in Mexico: FIFA Confirms Cruz Azul's Lawsuit Against Martín Anselmi
Cruz Azul has sued Martín Anselmi for leaving to join Porto without paying his five-million-dollar release clause
Although Cruz Azul has managed to handle the departure of Martín Anselmi better than expected, thanks to the strong performance of Vicente Sánchez, the club has not forgotten the betrayal they felt when he left for Porto in January without paying his five-million-dollar release clause. This situation was brought to FIFA by Cruz Azul… and it has been confirmed.

Cruz Azul demands five million from Anselmi
The lawsuit has already reached the Court of Arbitration for Sport after the complaint filed by Cruz Azul a few weeks ago. Now, two months after the sudden departure of Martín Anselmi to Porto, the complaint has been accepted by FIFA after hearing the claims presented by Cruz Azul, who submitted the relevant documents regarding the case.
At no point did Cruz Azul prevent Martín Anselmi from moving to Europe to coach a club like Porto, which will also participate in the 2025 Club World Cup. They simply held firm to their right to claim the five million dollars stipulated in his contract to buy out his freedom… which still has not been paid. As a result, it seems that a ruling will soon be made on the matter.
How is Anselmi doing at Porto?
This is undoubtedly a tough blow for Martín Anselmi, who is also struggling to get the Porto project off the ground… despite the good ideas he has been trying to implement during his first months at Do Dragao. A few weeks ago, they were eliminated by Roma in the Europa League playoffs, and they are currently in third place in the Primeira Liga, nine points behind Sporting CP.
Irregularity is the factor that is holding back Martín Anselmi's start at Porto. In fact, after 10 games in charge of Do Dragao, he has still not managed to string together two consecutive wins. This weekend, during their visit to Estoril, he will have the opportunity to break this streak after the victory against AVS before the FIFA break.
