Sergio Ramos Named Captain for Debut with Rayados de Monterrey
Spanish defender Sergio Ramos to make his debut with Rayados de Monterrey this Saturday in Matchday 8 of the Clausura 2025 Tournament, as confirmed by his coach, Argentine Martín Demichelis. Additionally, Ramos will take on the role of team captain.

"Ramos will start tomorrow; we agreed on it with him. We have decided that he will start tomorrow. He looks very good, very excited as well," said Demichelis in a press conference ahead of the match against Atlético San Luis.
Sergio Ramos, ready to debut in Liga MX
The former Real Madrid player, who will turn 39 in March, has not played an official match since May 2024, which delayed his debut with Monterrey. During his presentation on February 9, Ramos admitted he needed two to three weeks to adapt to the team.
Last Tuesday, the 2010 World Cup champion with Spain was officially registered with Liga MX, completing the final requirement to be eligible for selection in the match against San Luis.
A leader in Monterrey’s defense
With his arrival, Sergio Ramos will strengthen a defense that has conceded 12 goals in the tournament, the fifth-highest total so far. Additionally, Rayados have only kept a clean sheet once, in Matchday 5, when they defeated Necaxa 1-0.
Ramos’ leadership will be crucial for the Monterrey squad, according to Martín Demichelis:
"Sergio is one of the best defenders in football history. His leadership, respect, and commanding presence make him the ideal choice. That’s why we’re giving him the captain’s armband, with well-deserved respect for Héctor Moreno and Sergio Canales, who will remain captains," explained the coach.
With Monterrey currently in tenth place in the standings, Sergio Ramos’ debut in Liga MX is generating great anticipation among fans of the team and Mexican football.
