Boca Juniors' Dream of Signing Sergio Ramos Comes to an End
According to TyC Sports, Sergio Ramos has turned down the Argentine club's offer to join them in the upcoming January transfer window.
Boca Juniors' hopes of securing a deal for Spanish center-back Sergio Ramos have reportedly come to a close. According to TyC Sports, Ramos has turned down the Argentine club's offer to join them in the upcoming January transfer window, despite the allure of potentially playing in the Club World Cup next summer.
Ramos, who will turn 39 in March, has been without a team since his contract with Sevilla ended in June. In the months that followed, there were strong links between Ramos and both Boca Juniors and Brazil's Corinthians, but neither move has materialized thus far.
The possibility of Ramos joining Boca was fueled by the close relationship he shares with the club's head coach, Fernando Gago, whom he played alongside at Real Madrid.
This connection raised the hopes of Boca's fanbase, who dreamed of seeing the seasoned defender wear the club's iconic blue and gold jersey.
Gago briefly addressed the rumors following Boca's 0-0 draw against Independiente last Saturday, which concluded their year.
While he dismissed any direct contact with Ramos, Gago's cryptic comment about transfer activity in the coming weeks only added fuel to the speculation. “I haven’t spoken to anyone, truly,” Gago stated, before adding, “In the next 15 or 20 days, they’ll have fun with the transfer rumors...”
However, with Ramos reportedly declining Boca’s offer, the club is now shifting its focus to alternative options. One name gaining traction is that of Argentine defender Ayrton Costa, currently playing for Belgian side Royal Antwerp, who previously played for Independiente and Platense. As Boca looks to strengthen their squad, Costa appears to be a potential target for the club.
