River Plate presents its squad with four World Cup champions
River Plate unveiled its seven new signings for the 2025 season ahead of the friendly against Mexico. With the arrival of Gonzalo Montiel from Sevilla FC, the Argentine team joins Atlético de Madrid as the club with the most active World Cup champions, adding Franco Armani, Germán Pezzella, and Marcos Acuña to its roster.
Reinforcements and reunions
The event took place in front of more than 86,000 people at the Estadio Monumental and was led by Jorge Brito and head coach Marcelo Gallardo. During the presentation, the return of Enzo Pérez, Lucas Martínez Quarta, and Sebastián Driussi was highlighted as they returned to wear the River Plate jersey after their stints at other clubs.
Additionally, the new signings were warmly welcomed by the fans. Giuliano Galoppo, Gonzalo Tapia, and Matías Rojas joined the squad, strengthening the team for the upcoming season. River Plate's preseason concluded with a 1-2 win in a friendly against Universidad de Chile. The team is now preparing for its official debut in the Copa de la Liga Profesional against Platense on Saturday. Moreover, on March 5, they will face Talleres from Córdoba in the Supercopa Internacional 2023, with the chance to secure their first title since Gallardo returned to the club.
Goals in international competitions
Throughout the season, River Plate will compete in the Copa Argentina and will participate in the Copa Libertadores starting in April. The club is ambitious with the return of key players and a strengthened squad to tackle both domestic and international challenges.
