Carlos Palacios Under Fire at Boca Juniors: Omitted Amid Controversy and Allegations
Carlos Palacios has found himself in hot water at Boca Juniors following his surprise exclusion from the squad in the team’s recent elimination from the Copa Argentina. The decision, made by head coach Miguel Ángel Russo, has sparked intense debate surrounding both the player’s professionalism and physical condition.
Why Was Palacios Left Out?
According to reports from Argentina, Russo’s decision was allegedly based on disciplinary grounds. The Chilean forward is said to have shown up “in poor condition” to a training session ahead of the cup match, a crucial fixture that could have paved Boca’s way to the 2026 Copa Libertadores.
However, Palacios had reportedly been nursing knee discomfort for several weeks, which he claims was the actual reason for his limited involvement.

Palacios Responds: “Never Showed Up in Bad Condition”
Palacios took to social media to deny the rumors, publishing a lengthy statement that he deleted shortly after. In his message, he emphasized his commitment and clarified that he’s dealing with an injury:
“I have never shown up to training in bad condition. I’ve been struggling with knee issues since before the World Cup. I’ve attended every session and was sent for an MRI by the medical staff.”
He also called out Argentine journalists Martín Arévalo and Marcelo Palacios, accusing them of spreading false claims and making offensive remarks:
“What’s the goal behind all these lies? To paint me as irresponsible? This is extremely damaging. Be careful with your words.”
Palacios also urged Chilean media not to amplify unfounded reports, warning that the damage extends to his career and family.

Russo Staying Silent, But Tensions Rising
Head coach Miguel Ángel Russo refused to discuss the matter in his latest press conference, stating bluntly:
“I’m not talking about the Palacios situation.”
Despite the silence, multiple outlets suggest Russo is running out of patience. The forward had previous issues with the Chilean national team, and following his omission by Ricardo Gareca, he publicly vented during a livestream with Arturo Vidal.
Some Argentine media are now floating the possibility of a fallout or even an ultimatum being issued by the coach.
What’s Next for Boca?
With the drama unresolved, Boca Juniors will now turn its attention to upcoming domestic fixtures. All eyes will be on whether Palacios makes it back into the squad:
- Sunday, July 27 – 6:30 PM ET : vs Huracán (Estadio Tomás A. Ducó)
- Sunday, August 10 : vs Racing Club (La Bombonera)
- Sunday, August 17 : vs Independiente Rivadavia (Mendoza)
For Palacios, these next few weeks could determine whether he remains part of Boca’s long-term plans or if this controversy signals the beginning of the end of his tenure in Buenos Aires.
