Aubameyang Praises Roberto De Zerbi and Believes in Marseille's Future
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is currently excelling in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Qadsiah, did not hesitate to praise coach Roberto De Zerbi during an interview with The Athletic. The Gabonese forward, who has played in some of the world's top leagues such as Serie A, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Premier League, and LaLiga, is now experiencing his first stint outside Europe. With seven goals in 13 matches, Aubameyang has proven to be in great form in Gulf football.
Despite his impressive performance in Saudi Arabia, the 35-year-old striker also reflected on his last season with Olympique de Marseille, where he shone with 30 goals and 11 assists in 51 games during the 2023-2024 campaign. However, that stellar performance was not enough to convince him to stay at the French club, as he chose a new challenge in Saudi Arabia during the last transfer window.
Before leaving Marseille, Aubameyang had the chance to briefly work with Roberto De Zerbi, who had recently taken charge as the team's coach. Although their time together was short, Aubameyang was impressed by the Italian manager's dedication and tactical approach. "He has devoted his entire life to football. He always strives for the best for his team and has great tactical ideas," the Gabonese forward stated.
Aubameyang also took the opportunity to urge Marseille fans and management to be patient with De Zerbi's project. "Sometimes, people aren't patient, but this time, Marseille needs to be because he can truly bring the team back to the top," he assured. These statements highlight the forward's confidence in the coach's potential to achieve great things with the team in Ligue 1.
Marseille's performance under De Zerbi has already shown positive signs in the first half of the season. Aubameyang's words reflect the impact the Italian coach had during his short time at the club and emphasize the importance of trusting a project that promises great success in the future.
