Kvaratskhelia's Emotional Farewell from Napoli with a Message to Maradona
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia officially said goodbye to Napoli this Thursday, remembering the club's eternal idol, Diego Armando Maradona, whom he described as "God of football." In a video shared on his social media, Kvara expressed that it was "an honor" to wear the sky-blue jersey with which he won the 'Scudetto' in 2023, dedicating part of his farewell to the Argentine '10' with words full of respect and admiration.
The Georgian winger emphasized how special the relationship between Maradona and the city of Naples is: "Here you can intensely feel what Diego really means to this city. They love him more than anyone or anything. Diego lives in the heart of every Neapolitan and will always do so," he said. For Kvara, Maradona is a figure who transcends football and holds an eternal place in the history of Naples.
"Goodbye Diego. Goodbye Napoli," said an emotional Kvaratskhelia, who arrived in the Italian city as an unknown and leaves as one of the most beloved players in recent club history. In his two and a half seasons at Napoli, he left an indelible mark by helping the team win the league title after 33 years.
Now, Kvaratskhelia embarks on a new challenge in his career, heading to PSG after a transfer that will likely be around 75 million euros. In his farewell message, the Georgian mentioned that he was leaving Napoli "as a man," expressing gratitude for the affection from fans and highlighting the emotions he lived through at the club. "I know you’re upset, but one day I’ll tell you everything," the player hinted, sparking speculation about the reasons behind his departure.
With Kvaratskhelia's departure, Napoli loses another hero who contributed to their 'Scudetto' 2023 title, joining the exits of Piotr Zielinski, now at Inter Milan; Kim Min-Jae, at Bayern Munich; and Victor Osimhen, loaned to Galatasaray. In total, Kvaratskhelia played 104 matches for Napoli, scoring 30 goals and providing 24 assists.
