Kvaratskhelia Shines as PSG Builds Momentum for Season’s Final Stretch
Kvaratskhelia starred with a brace as Paris Saint-Germain wrapped up the Ligue 1 season, shifting focus to two crucial finals ahead: the French Cup and the Champions League.
Paris Saint-Germain, fielding a near full-strength lineup, defeated Auxerre 3-1 in the final matchday of Ligue 1, using the match as a tune-up for the key finals ahead. With two goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and a header by Marquinhos, the French champions wrapped up the league campaign confidently.
With the Champions League final just two weeks away, Luis Enrique opted for a lineup that could very well face Inter, leaving behind rotations to maintain rhythm. And no one shined brighter than Kvaratskhelia, who continues to be one of the most impactful players on the squad.
Before the continental showdown, however, PSG must face Reims in the French Cup final next weekend. The team is eyeing a treble, a feat previously achieved by Laurent Blanc (2015-16) and Unai Emery (2017-18).
Comeback Led by PSG’s Stars
Despite controlling the game early on, PSG struggled to finish and saw Auxerre take the lead in the 30th minute through a stunning long-range strike by Sinayoko. The visitors held their lead into halftime as the Parisians lacked precision and looked cautious, clearly avoiding injuries.
In the second half, PSG raised the intensity. Kvaratskhelia equalized with a powerful right-footed shot from outside the box, and just minutes later, Marquinhos nodded home a corner to complete the comeback between the 59th and 67th minute.
Ousmane Dembélé, aiming to secure the golden boot ahead of Mason Greenwood, missed two clear chances and was later subbed off for Gonçalo Ramos, who squandered a penalty that would’ve sealed the game.
Ultimately, it was Kvaratskhelia again who closed the show, scoring a brilliant second goal to cap off his man-of-the-match performance. With two finals looming, the Georgian forward is in top form and ready to lead Luis Enrique’s team in the defining stretch of the season.
