Luis Enrique's PSG Revolution Could End in a Historic Treble
With Ligue 1 already secured and two more trophies within reach, Luis Enrique dreams of repeating the legendary treble he achieved a decade ago with Barcelona, this time in charge of Paris Saint-Germain.
Ligue 1: A Domestic Masterclass
Paris Saint-Germain have once again dominated French football. The capital club clinched the Ligue 1 title with six games to spare, their eleventh in the last 14 seasons. Their 2-1 win over Angers confirmed what had become inevitable.
Under Luis Enrique, the Parisians have remained unbeaten through 28 matches. The team’s attacking power has been explosive, with Ousmane Dembélé emerging as the league’s top scorer with 21 goals. Last season, with Kylian Mbappé leading the charge, PSG scored 81 goals in 34 matches; this year, they're already close to that figure.
But more importantly, the Spanish coach has reshaped the team in his image. With no Mbappé, who is bound for Real Madrid, Luis Enrique has built a cohesive unit with discipline and intensity—hallmarks of his managerial style.
One Down, Two to Go
Having already lifted the Trophée des Champions and now Ligue 1, the second step toward a treble is set for May 24 in the Coupe de France final. PSG reached the last stage after surviving a scare against Dunkerque, coming from two goals down thanks to a Dembélé brace.
Victory there would give Luis Enrique his second consecutive cup double with PSG, and the 16th Coupe de France title in the club’s history.
But the biggest prize looms: the Champions League. It’s the one trophy that has eluded the Qatari-backed club. From Zlatan Ibrahimović to Neymar, Messi, Mbappé, and Di María, many stars have tried and failed to bring the "Orejona" to the Parc des Princes.
Luis Enrique, however, knows what it takes. He won it in 2015 with Barcelona. To do it again, he must first overcome Unai Emery's Aston Villa in the quarterfinals, then possibly face either Real Madrid or Arsenal in the semis.
A decade after his historic treble with the Catalan giants, Luis Enrique now has the chance to repeat the feat in Paris. The path won’t be easy, but the revolution is already in motion.
