OFFICIAL: Jonathan David confirms he’ll leave Lille as a free agent
Canadian striker Jonathan David has confirmed he will leave LOSC Lille at the end of the season. In an emotional video posted on his Instagram account, the forward thanked the club and its fans for their support throughout his time with the team. “I wanted to tell you myself that, after so many years at the club, the time has come to say goodbye,” said the player, who shared the message alongside clips of his best moments with Les Dogues.
A golden chapter in Lille
At 25, David closes a brilliant chapter with Lille, a club he joined in 2020 from Belgian side Gent to replace Victor Osimhen. He scored 109 goals in 231 official matches and played a key role in winning the Ligue 1 title and the Trophée des Champions in 2021. This season, he once again showed his killer instinct in front of goal, netting 25 times across all competitions, including big matches in the Champions League against Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid.
“It’s been five wonderful seasons,” said David, who made sure to thank everyone who supported him during his time at the club. “I know it hasn’t always been easy, but I hope my goals and celebrations brought you some joy,” he added. He also had a heartfelt message for the fans: “You’ve always had my back, and I’ll carry you in my heart.”
A bright future in Europe
With his contract set to expire on June 30, David is now one of the most sought-after names in the upcoming transfer window. His consistent performances in Ligue 1 and European competitions have drawn interest from clubs like Napoli, Juventus, West Ham, and FC Barcelona. The striker had already expressed his desire to play in LaLiga: “I grew up watching a lot of matches from that league, and it’s my favorite competition. One day I’d love to play there,” he revealed.
Now that his time at Lille is officially over, the Canadian international is ready to take the next step in his career. With an upward trajectory and free-agent status, Jonathan David is set for a new challenge in European football.
