Marseille's good run came to an end against an Auxerre side that hadn't won in ten matches. Christophe Pelissier’s squad had not secured three points since November 24, when they defeated Angers.

However, Auxerre played its cards right and took the lead past the half-hour mark when Hamed Traoré set up Gaëtan Perrin for a clean finish.

Marseille struggled to find the net, and things got worse after Cornelius's red card in the 63rd minute. Then, in the 75th minute, Argentine goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli conceded a penalty on Lassine Sinayoko, which Brazilian Jubal Júnior converted to double Auxerre's lead. In added time, Auxerre sealed the victory with a third goal.

With this defeat, Marseille could fall thirteen points behind the leaders if Paris Saint-Germain wins against Lyon on Sunday. Meanwhile, Auxerre climbed to tenth place in the standings, now nine points clear of the relegation zone.
