Strasbourg Makes a Comeback and Dreams of the Europa League After Beating Lyon
Strasbourg delivered a statement victory in Ligue 1 with a commanding 4-2 win over Lyon, a team that started strong but ultimately succumbed to the pressure from the home side. With this result, Liam Rosenior’s squad climbs to fifth place in the standings, surpassing their direct rivals in the race for European competition.
Strasbourg’s Victory Over Lyon
The match began with Lyon taking control, determined to secure all three points. Throughout the first half, Pierre Sage’s men dominated possession and created multiple scoring opportunities. However, their lack of accuracy, coupled with an outstanding performance from the opposition’s goalkeeper, kept them from capitalizing on their chances. Meanwhile, Strasbourg struggled to find rhythm and posed little threat to the visitors' defense.
Everything changed after halftime. With renewed energy and the support of their home crowd, the hosts came out determined to turn the game around. The breakthrough came in the 55th minute when captain Andrey Santos connected with a low header from a corner kick, beating goalkeeper Lucas Perri and igniting the stadium.
That goal was the turning point, and just two minutes later, Dilane Bakwa extended the lead with a powerful strike from the edge of the box. With a 2-0 advantage, Strasbourg seemed comfortable, but Lyon quickly responded through Corentin Tolisso, who found the net in the 62nd minute to keep his team in the game.
Instead of losing momentum, Strasbourg maintained their intensity and sealed the victory with two more goals. Emanuel Emegha scored in the 73rd minute with a composed finish inside the box, while Englishman Samuel Amo-Ameyaw put the game to bed in the 89th minute with a well-placed shot, making it 4-1. Lyon managed to salvage some pride in stoppage time with a penalty converted by Georges Mikautadze.

With this crucial win, Strasbourg now sits fifth in the Ligue 1 standings with 46 points, one point ahead of Lyon, who drops behind in the European qualification race. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain remains comfortably at the top with 68 points, followed by Marseille (49) and Monaco (47).
Liam Rosenior’s squad has shown they are ready to fight for a spot in next season’s Europa League, and this comeback win against a direct rival is a testament to their ambition.
