Aubameyang Punished After Fire Extinguisher Incident at Marseille
The Gabonese striker has been left out of Olympique de Marseille’s next match after a controversial incident at the club’s training ground.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been sanctioned by Olympique de Marseille after allegedly spraying a club employee with a fire extinguisher during a late-night incident at the team’s training complex.
According to reports from L’Équipe, the incident took place on Thursday evening at La Commanderie, Marseille’s training center. The Gabonese striker reportedly tried to lighten the mood among teammates before things escalated.
Aubameyang allegedly used a fire extinguisher on Bob Tahri, a club staff member responsible for enforcing curfew rules during the team gathering. Reports also claim the striker sprayed Tahri’s bed and personal belongings during the incident.
The matter was immediately reported to the club’s sporting management, and Aubameyang was asked to explain his actions the following day. Although the former Arsenal and Barcelona forward apologized and expressed regret, Marseille decided to impose disciplinary measures.
As part of the punishment, Aubameyang has been left out of the squad for Sunday’s crucial Ligue 1 match against Le Havre.
The incident adds further tension to an already difficult season for Marseille, with the club facing sporting inconsistency and growing internal pressure while fighting to secure European qualification.
Aubameyang’s absence represents a significant setback for the French side, both because of his importance on the pitch and the attention generated by the controversy surrounding the incident.
