Canadian forward Jonathan David tipped the scales in favor of Lille with a 3-1 win over Brest at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Villeneuve d'Ascq. This victory temporarily places Lille in third position in Ligue 1, led by Paris Saint-Germain, after Matchday 14.

A key win ahead of the Champions League

The team managed by Bruno Genesio is now unbeaten in 14 matches, including 10 in Ligue 1. Lille emerged stronger from this clash between two teams preparing for upcoming Champions League fixtures. Jonathan David shines again

Jonathan David played a decisive role in the opening match of Matchday 14 in the French league. He scored the opener from the penalty spot in the 6th minute after Julien Le Cardinal fouled Benjamin André inside the box. Later, he provided an assist to Icelandic midfielder Hakon Arnar Haraldsson to make it 2-0 just before halftime.

Brest pulled one back early in the second half when Ludovic Ajorque, assisted by Mahdi Camara, beat goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. However, David sealed the win in the 70th minute by capitalizing on a rebound from a save by Marco Bizot, calmly slotting the ball into the net for Lille’s third goal.
