Paris FC: The Dark Horse Shaking Up Ligue 1
Just over a year ago, the Parisian club was preparing for its return to France's top flight. Now, with a squad featuring fewer big names than its rivals, Paris FC is enjoying one of the most surprising starts to the season.
What makes their start particularly interesting is that Paris FC are achieving these results without a squad packed with international superstars. They have experienced players, promising youngsters, and several important additions, but still lack the star power and pedigree of many of their rivals.
From 46 Years Away to Competing With France's Best
Paris FC's rise took a major step forward in May 2025, when they secured promotion to France's top division for the first time since 1979. Having spent much of their history in the lower leagues, the club found an opportunity to accelerate its development through the financial backing of the Arnault family and Red Bull.
The new ownership structure, established in November 2024, gave Agache Sport a 52.4% stake and Red Bull 10.6%. The investment helped strengthen the club's sporting project, although the initial goal was to establish Paris FC in Ligue 1 rather than immediately challenge for the highest positions.
The 2025/26 season provided their first test, and Paris FC managed to retain their top-flight status. The following campaign brought a new chapter with the appointment of Liam Rosenior as manager. The English coach has built a competitive side that combines experienced players with emerging talents without relying on a squad of household names.
Few Superstars but Ligue 1's Leading Scorer
One of the standout players behind Paris FC's strong start is Lassine Sinayoko. The Mali international leads the Ligue 1 scoring charts with eight goals in nine appearances, along with five assists. In total, he has been directly involved in 13 of the team's 16 league goals.
The squad also features players such as Moses Simon, Maxime López, Pierre Lees-Melou, Ilan Kebbal, and Hamari Traoré, who bring valuable experience to a team without the same level of star power as its main competitors.
That combination is producing results. Paris FC have scored 16 goals in nine matches, more than Lille, Monaco, and Olympique Lyonnais. However, Sinayoko's involvement in such a large share of those goals also raises questions about how heavily the team depends on its striker.
The Challenge Now Is Maintaining Their Momentum
Despite their promising start, Paris FC still have areas to improve. Their home form has been one of their greatest strengths, with four wins and one draw in five matches, but results away from the Stade Jean-Bouin have been less convincing.
Their next challenge comes against Auxerre on Saturday, November 7, at 11:15 AM ET, in a Ligue 1 match you can watch LIVE on beIN SPORTS, subject to broadcast scheduling.
Paris FC are only in their second consecutive season back in France's top division, yet they already find themselves among the league's top four. Maintaining that pace over the coming months will be the real test for a project that is still establishing itself at the highest level.
