PSG Delivers a Statement Win Against Lyon
Paris Saint-Germain bounced back from two consecutive slip-ups in Ligue 1 with a vital 3-1 victory over Lyon. Goals from Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha, and Gonçalo Ramos widened their lead to seven points over Marseille.
Désiré Doué was particularly impressive, showcasing incisive, electric, and decisive play on the left flank. From the onset, he endeavored to break down Lyon’s defense, entrenched in their half of the field. He succeeded early on, breezing past defenders to reach the byline and set up Dembélé for an easy finish at the eight-minute mark.
PSG quickly extended their lead in the first half-hour. Doué again played a pivotal role, drawing a foul inside the box that led to a penalty. Vitinha converted the spot-kick to make it 2-0, marking a period of total dominance by PSG. It could have been more, but Kang-In Lee missed a clear chance alone in front of goal, failing to seal the deal.
However, as has happened several times this season, PSG's intensity dropped suddenly. They inexplicably gave up ground to Lyon, and towards the end of the first half, their mental sharpness waned. Georges Mikautadze capitalized on this lapse, leveraging a slight resurgence from Cherki who provided a brilliant pass, which Mikautadze finished by lobbing the ball over Gianluigi Donnarumma.
In the closing stages, PSG regained control. Lee squandered another great opportunity, Donnarumma made a crucial save against a shot from Fofana, and Gonçalo Ramos sealed the win with a last-minute goal, ensuring that Luis Enrique’s team stayed firmly on top of the Ligue 1 standings.
