Why Won’t Ousmane Dembélé Play for Paris Saint-Germain Against Le Mans in Ligue 1?
Ousmane Dembélé will be one of PSG’s major absences against Le Mans. Luis Enrique’s decision raises questions as the Parisian side returns to action following the international break.
Paris Saint-Germain will be without a key player as they return to Ligue 1. Ousmane Dembélé will be unavailable against Le Mans, forcing Luis Enrique to adjust his plans for the upcoming fixture.
The French attacker’s absence stands out because of his importance to PSG’s system and the timing of the decision. Is this another physical setback or a strategic move by the coaching staff?
Why Did PSG Decide to Rest Dembélé?
Dembélé’s absence is not due to an injury. Instead, PSG decided to grant him an extended period of rest following his commitments with France. The forward featured in his national team’s last four matches, prompting the coaching staff to manage his physical workload.
The decision was agreed upon by Luis Enrique, the sporting director, and the club. Moreover, this is not the first time PSG have opted to manage the attacker’s minutes: he also missed the match against Lille on August 28 after being granted several days off.
Dembélé is scheduled to resume training on Saturday, October 10. PSG would rather do without one of their key players against Le Mans than push him to play additional minutes amid a demanding schedule.
Nuno Mendes Will Also Miss the Match
Nuno Mendes will be another notable absentee against Le Mans. The Portuguese full-back was also granted additional rest after starting four consecutive matches for his national team over a ten-day period.
The absence of both players forces Luis Enrique to reshuffle his options on the wings. Mendes will return to training on Sunday, October 11. The decision is aimed at managing the workload of two regular starters rather than addressing a confirmed injury.

Manchester City on PSG’s Radar
Dembélé and Mendes’ rest period also takes on added significance given PSG’s upcoming fixtures. After facing Le Mans, the Parisian side will turn its attention to their European clash against Manchester City, a matchup that will demand intensity and attacking quality.
For now, Dembélé’s absence is not due to a confirmed injury but rather a decision to give him time to rest. PSG will have to find alternatives against Le Mans while awaiting the return of two key players for the next phase of the season.
