From Champion to Bottom of the MLS Standings: What’s Happening to LA Galaxy?
LA Galaxy suffered their third loss of the season in MLS against St. Louis City
Just a few months ago, LA Galaxy added their sixth MLS championship title to the trophy case at Dignity Health Sports Park after defeating New York Red Bull in the final. However, this season has started in a radically opposite manner, and after three rounds of the championship, they are at the bottom of the table… with no points in their record.

LA Galaxy has three losses in MLS
Even during the preseason, where they barely managed a narrow victory against Minnesota in their five preparation matches, it was predicted that LA Galaxy would not have a comfortable start to the season. Especially because, in addition to the serious injury from which Riqui Puig is still recovering, LA Galaxy lost key players like Brugman, Mark Delgado, and Jovelic.
The forecasts weren't the most promising before the season started… and they are proving true during these first few weeks, where LA Galaxy has lost all their matches. They debuted with a loss against the newly founded San Diego FC (0-2), lost to Vancouver (2-1) in the final minutes… and yesterday they were thrashed at home by St. Louis City (0-3).
Marco Reus's message
In total, LA Galaxy has conceded seven goals and has scored just one in these first three MLS matches. An unsustainable record for any team… and even more so for the champions. “Honestly, last season doesn’t matter to me anymore. We have a new team, new chemistry we need to build, and a new winning mentality,” said Marco Reus.
This poor start to the season for LA Galaxy in MLS has also extended to the Concachampions, where they also lost to Herediano in Costa Rica and are now forced to come back in Los Angeles this week if they don’t want to be eliminated. Undoubtedly, LA Galaxy is going through a situation that few could have imagined just a few months ago.
