Lionel Messi Faces His Toughest Choice Yet: Picking His Favorite Goal Ever
Lionel Messi is about to make one of the toughest decisions of his career — choosing his favorite goal out of the 800+ he's scored. The choice comes as part of a charity campaign that brings together the worlds of sport and digital art. The initiative is led by the football legend himself, the Inter Miami CF Foundation, and renowned digital artist Refik Anadol.
One Goal, One Work of Art
The campaign officially kicks off on May 22, when the Argentina captain will reveal his most meaningful goal on social media. That goal will then be turned into a one-of-a-kind digital artwork by Refik Anadol, co-signed by both the artist and Messi, and auctioned off at Christie’s to raise funds for charity.
“Choosing just one goal from all of them is really tough. Each one has something special — some were super important or bring back amazing memories. But picking one favorite for the first time, just to make this unique project happen, is totally worth it. There's a strong purpose behind it and I'm really happy to be part of it,” said Messi in an official statement.
Education as a Driving Force
One of the main goals of the campaign is to support educational programs across Latin America and the Caribbean, through a partnership between the Inter Miami CF Foundation and UNICEF. “Education fuels dreams. That’s why Inter Miami is committed to supporting programs that make education accessible to everyone,” said managing owner Jorge Mas.
“We’re thrilled to see Leo’s favorite goal through Refik’s artistic lens. This groundbreaking collab brings together the world’s best footballer and a globally celebrated artist to create a one-of-a-kind piece that will help fund our educational efforts,” added Mas. Meanwhile, Anadol called it “an extraordinary honor” to work with Messi on a project that blends “the emotional legacy of sport with the future of art.” The artwork will be officially unveiled on June 11 at Christie’s in New York.
