Lionel Messi Sponsors His Own Team With New Sports Drink
The Más+ by Messi beverage, created by Leo Messi himself, has been announced as the official hydration partner of Inter Miami, the club where the Argentine star plays. "It is a great honor and joy for Más+ by Messi to become a sponsor of Inter Miami,” said the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Messi and Inter Miami’s Revolution
In recent years, Inter Miami has seen unprecedented growth in the global football scene. The arrival of Messi, along with the additions of Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, has boosted the club’s worldwide popularity. Now, through this partnership, Messi and Inter Miami introduce a beverage packed with electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, containing just 1 gram of sugar and 10 calories per serving.
Más+ by Messi: Hydration for Athletes and Everyday Life
Messi explained that the goal behind Más+ by Messi was to create an optimal hydration drink for both elite athletes and casual consumers. “We wanted to offer a beverage with the benefits of electrolytes and vitamins, perfect for staying hydrated anytime,” said the Argentine star.
With this deal, Messi enters his third season with Inter Miami, excelling not only on the field but also contributing to the team’s preparation and recovery. “Inter Miami players understand how important hydration is for reaching their goals. Now, everyone can benefit from the same hydration, whether they’re on the field, in the stands, or in daily life,” added the former FC Barcelona legend.

The tournament’s opening day on July 29 will feature six matches:
- Toluca vs. Columbus Crew
- New York City vs. Puebla
- Montreal vs. León
- Tigres vs. Houston Dynamo
- LAFC vs. Mazatlán
- Pachuca vs. San Diego
Inter Miami will debut on July 30 against Atlas, followed by matchups against Necaxa on August 2 and Pumas UNAM on August 6.
Meanwhile, Club América, reigning Liga MX champions, will begin their campaign on July 30 against Real Salt Lake, then face Minnesota United on August 2 and Portland Timbers on August 6.
Key Changes in the Leagues Cup Format
The 2025 Leagues Cup will feature 18 MLS teams and 18 Liga MX teams, marking a new balanced format.
This third edition of the tournament will run from July 29 to August 31, without pausing MLS and Liga MX competitions. Unlike previous editions, only 18 MLS teams will compete, matching the number of Liga MX participants.
For U.S. and Canadian teams, the tournament will include the top nine teams from each MLS conference based on last season’s standings. A special exception is San Diego, the league’s newest franchise, which will replace Vancouver Whitecaps, as they will compete in the Concacaf Champions Cup and Canadian Championship.
The 2025 Leagues Cup will start with a group stage featuring three matches per team, followed by knockout rounds.
Exciting Changes and Competitive Balance
One of the most notable changes is that all 54 group-stage matches will feature an MLS team against a Liga MX team, ensuring high-stakes interleague competition.
Additionally, the new ranking and points system guarantees a 4 MLS vs. 4 Liga MX quarterfinal lineup.
Moreover, six Liga MX teams will receive reduced travel and hosting privileges due to recent strong performances:
- Club América
- Cruz Azul
- Toluca
- Tigres
- Monterrey
- Pumas UNAM
The Leagues Cup, previously won by Inter Miami (2023) and Columbus Crew (2024), will once again offer three qualification spots for the Concacaf Champions Cup.
