Speaking at the post-match press conference at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Mascherano highlighted Messi's immense influence both on and off the pitch.

“Messi is the soul of this team on the field. He’s a guy who plays and doesn’t want to lose, and that’s a huge advantage for us,” said the Argentine coach.

Inter Miami faced a significant challenge after Tomás Avilés was sent off in the 25th minute. However, Messi’s leadership shone through, delivering two crucial assists—one to Avilés before his red card and another to Telasco Segovia, helping Miami secure a hard-fought draw.

“It’s not just what he does on the field—it’s what he brings to his teammates. Everything he does at 37 is impressive. He’s not just attacking; he runs, supports the midfielders—it’s magnificent,” Mascherano added.

Despite the dramatic comeback, Mascherano felt the team deserved more:

“We deserved the win. I’m taking away so many positives—the team has soul, the team has life, and we’re going to fight. We’re upset because we wanted to win our home opener, but this will make us stronger,” he reflected.

The match ended with an unusual scene as Messi received a yellow card for vocally protesting a controversial referee decision. Mascherano downplayed the incident:

“I didn’t get a chance to talk to Leo. I greeted him, and he seemed calm. I didn’t see the moment live as I headed to the locker room, but in the dressing room, he was serene,” Mascherano assured.
