Mascherano Says Neymar to Inter Miami Is Nearly Impossible
If it happened, it would recreate the famous MNS (Messi, Neymar, and Suárez) trio that starred for FC Barcelona.
Inter Miami's head coach, Argentine Javier Mascherano, stated on Thursday that the club does not plan to sign forward Neymar, primarily due to the salary cap restrictions imposed by MLS, which make the Brazilian's transfer "nearly impossible."
"We can't talk about Ney because we have nothing," said the garzas' manager, addressing recent rumors about the Brazilian potentially joining the South Florida team.
Inter Miami's 2025 Priorities
In a press conference, Mascherano explained that his top priority for 2025 is securing the reinforcements the team needs following the sales and transfers made at the end of the last season. He promised that the club would announce more details about new signings in the coming weeks.
On reuniting with stars like Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets, with whom he played at Barcelona, Mascherano expressed that they approach it naturally, even though he now wears the coach's uniform.
"We've experienced extraordinary things for a very long time, and nothing will ever change that," said the former central defender of the azulgrana team.
Match Against Club América: A Tough Challenge
Inter Miami will kick off their preseason with a friendly match on January 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada, against Club América, the reigning Liga MX champion. However, Mascherano acknowledged that the team will have little preparation time for the match.
"Perhaps it would have been better to face them with a bit more game time under our belts, but it is what it is. We'll try to prepare as best as we can," he said about the game, calling América a "top rival."
Mascherano also mentioned that since becoming Inter Miami's head coach, he has been studying Major League Soccer (MLS) closely, especially teams from the Eastern Conference, where Lionel Messi's squad competes. He highlighted the clear and well-established playing styles of clubs like Columbus Crew and Cincinnati, which he considers strong contenders.
