Mascherano Slams Extreme Cold After Messi’s 2025 Debut: "It’s Inhuman"
Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano praises players' sacrifice after 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City in extreme temperatures
Lionel Messi’s stunning goal in freezing conditions
The match, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed by 24 hours due to a snowstorm. However, the freezing conditions persisted, with a wind chill of -21°C at 7:00 PM local time. Despite the relentless cold, Argentine star Lionel Messi scored a stunning goal, his first of the year, to give the Florida team the victory.
Mascherano proud of Inter Miami’s players’ attitude and sacrifice
"I'm very proud of the players because I think it's impossible to play in these conditions. It's inhuman," commented Javier Mascherano, who officially debuted as Inter Miami's coach. The former Argentine footballer noted that the extreme temperatures affected everyone, but the team's attitude and character were key to their victory.

Mascherano’s debut and Messi’s first goal of 2025
Mascherano, who also had his first official game as a coach under such extreme conditions, emphasized that the cold mainly affected the players' extremities, making it very difficult to maintain sensitivity and develop their game. Nevertheless, he highlighted that the team adapted and managed to push through.
Mascherano: "Our priority is to be well-organized defensively"
The Inter Miami coach also emphasized that the team's main priority is to maintain solid defensive organization. In this regard, the team managed to keep a clean sheet throughout the match. Mascherano pointed out that the team handled pressure moments well and capitalized on opportunities, like Messi’s goal.
