This is What Messi Said After Being Named MLS MVP
Leo Messi, forward for Inter Miami, assured that "in the long run, sacrifice and effort pay off" and emphasized that he feels "very happy" living in Miami, after receiving the MVP award for the most valuable player in MLS.
Inter Miami prepared a special surprise for Messi when handing him the MVP, with over 250 kids from the club's academy positioned on the field of Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale (Florida) to form the letters 'M-V-P'. Additionally, Messi's three children waited for the Argentine with the trophy in hand.
"First, thank you for the kind words and the reception. The photo we took together was amazing, so thank you for that. It truly is an honor for me to receive this award from all of you. It's a privilege to see you train. I’m very happy to be here every day. I'm very happy to be in this city, at this club that is growing," said Messi.
"I have the luck of seeing all of you. At some point, I’ve crossed paths with almost everyone. I’ve trained with some. It’s a pleasure to see you grow day by day. I encourage you all to keep fighting and pursuing your dreams. I would have liked to receive this award in a different situation, like playing the final next Saturday. But that’s also what football is about, improving every day," he added.
Messi was named MVP of the regular MLS season after scoring 20 goals and providing 16 assists in just 1,485 minutes on the field.
"We had a huge desire to become MLS champions this year. It didn’t happen, but next year we will come back stronger to try again. That’s what it’s about for you, especially now when you’re young. Fight for your dreams, put in the effort, and fight for what you want. In the long run, sacrifice and effort pay off," he considered.
"So, keep going this way, the club is supporting you because you’re at a time of great growth, with many possibilities. I think you’ve seen how the Academy has changed in the last year and a half. And there’s no doubt that it will continue this way, and you will have all the opportunities to fight for your dreams. So, thank you so much, and it’s an honor once again to be here with you. Thank you," concluded the Argentine.
