Xavi Hernández Heading to Inter Miami? Here’s What We Know
In recent weeks, Xavi Hernández’s name has resurfaced among football rumors. After leaving F.C. Barcelona and deciding to take a sabbatical year, some media outlets have linked him to Inter Miami, the team led by his former teammate Lionel Messi. However, according to MARCA, this possibility seems far from becoming a reality.
From Miami, speculation suggests that Xavi could be an option to replace Gerardo “Tata” Martino, who might step down for personal reasons. Despite these rumors, MARCA has confirmed that there has been no contact between the Catalan coach and the American club, mainly because Martino’s situation is still fresh, and no official decision has been made.
Another key factor ruling out this move is Xavi’s commitment not to coach during the 2024-25 season. According to the same source, the coach has decided to use this sabbatical year to rest and prepare for his next challenge at an elite club, preferably in Europe, where he can compete for the most prestigious titles—something Inter Miami currently cannot offer.
Although the idea of reuniting Xavi with former teammates like Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba would be a dream for fans, Inter Miami does not meet the professional aspirations of the coach. Moreover, the next MLS season begins in January, which does not align with Xavi’s plans to return to the sidelines.
For now, Xavi’s future seems closer to Europe than Miami. Meanwhile, Inter will need to consider alternatives if Martino ultimately decides to step down. As appealing as the possibility of seeing Xavi and Messi together on the same team might be, it seems this dream will have to wait.
