Berterame praises Messi and explains why he chose Inter Miami: “The project was key”

Argentine-Mexican forward Germán Berterame, Inter Miami’s new signing, said on Sunday that it is “always a pleasure to share the pitch” with Lionel Messi, while making it clear that his move to the club goes beyond simply playing alongside the Argentine star.

“It’s always a pleasure to be around Leo, but beyond that, the project and the level of the squad were what motivated me most to come here,” Berterame said in remarks released by Inter Miami.

“The project the club presented to me was key to my decision. It’s a breath of fresh air for me and my family, and a huge motivation to be part of this team,” added the striker, who arrives to strengthen Inter Miami’s attack in the MLS.

Berterame will occupy a Designated Player slot and has signed a contract through the 2028-29 Major League Soccer season, with an option to extend through the 2029-30 campaign.

“I was really eager to be with the group and start getting to know my teammates and the coaching staff. That’s why I made this trip to Medellín for Inter Miami’s preseason. I wanted to join as soon as possible and start feeling like part of the team,” he said.
