FC Dallas v Vancouver Whitecaps: Sorensen to use his squad after flying start
The Vancouver Whitecaps have won all three of their MLS games so far this season, ahead of visiting FC Dallas on Saturday.
Jesper Sorensen says the Vancouver Whitecaps must use their entire squad if they are to maintain their flying start to the MLS season, ahead of Saturday's visit to FC Dallas.
The Whitecaps have won all three of their MLS matches under Sorensen, beating CF Montreal 2-0 last week.
They then played out a 2-2 draw against Mexican giants Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions Cup in midweek, advancing on away goals as the tie finished 3-3 on aggregate.
But with the games coming thick and fast, Sorensen says changes could be required next time out.
"We looked a little bit flat at the end of both halves, which concerned me a little bit with two games coming up," he said, reflecting on their last game.
"We'll have to really use all our resources now in the next week. I think the team is doing well, everyone is giving everything and that's a positive thing."
Asked if Vancouver's players had benefitted from being given more freedom this campaign, he added: "They have freedom within the frame of how we play, so if there're space in front of you and you have someone taking control behind you, you can just go.
"You have some freedom of course, but it's within the structure of how we want to play. I don't know if they have more freedom than last year."
Dallas, meanwhile, have four points from three matches, losing their first game under Eric Quill against the Chicago Fire last week.
Quill's team were 1-0 up in that match with eight minutes to play but lost 3-1, prompting him to apologise to their supporters.
"I'd first like to apologise to our fanbase," Quill said. "They didn't deserve what happened, and this is my responsibility.
"I've been tasked with leading this club on a mission, and as coaches, how we can impact the game is with our decisions, and the turn of events was on me. The game was under control, and I can do better."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
FC Dallas – Luciano Acosta
Acosta created three chances for team-mates on Saturday, the 106th time he has laid on at least three chances in an MLS match.
Since his debut in the league in 2016, only Nicolas Lodeiro (108) has more such games.
Vancouver Whitecaps – Pedro Vite
With an assist last week, Vite (one goal, two assists) has been involved in at least one goal in each of the Whitecaps' three regular-season games in 2025.
The only player to record a goal contribution in his first four matches of a season for Vancouver was Pedro Morales back in 2016.
MATCH PREDICTION – DRAW
Vancouver have lost only one of their last 10 meetings with Dallas (W5 D4) in a run dating back to 2019.
The scoreless draw in the last meeting between the sides last September was Dallas' first clean sheet against Vancouver since 2016.
Dallas' 3-1 defeat to Chicago, meanwhile, was their fourth defeat in their last six home games in all competitions dating back to last season.
Prior to this run, Dallas had lost only three of their previous 25 matches at Toyota Stadium dating back to July 2023 (W13 D9).
Vancouver have won their first three games of a regular season for the first time in club history, but only one team in the last decade has won their first four to start an MLS campaign, St. Louis City in 2023 (first five).
