Messi Turns Inter Miami Into the Most Valuable Club in MLS
The arrival of Lionel Messi to MLS generated an immediate impact across the league, but even more so for Inter Miami, which, thanks to his presence, became the most valuable club in MLS.
According to Sportico, for the first time in its history, The Herons positioned themselves as the most valuable franchise in MLS, reaching a valuation of $1.45 billion, representing a 22% increase compared to the previous year.
Messi Transforms Inter Miami On and Off the Pitch
The arrival of Lionel Messi not only raised the competitive level of Inter Miami, but also triggered a profound shift in the club’s commercial and media structure. The report highlights that the franchise’s growth is directly linked to the global effect generated by the Argentine star, who boosted revenue streams, international exposure, and interest from new audiences.
With Messi as its centerpiece, the Florida-based club expanded its global reach, drawing massive crowds, increasing television ratings, and strengthening its brand worldwide. This off-field success translated directly into financial growth, redefining the club’s position within the league.
The Herons Surpass MLS Traditional Powerhouses
Thanks to this accelerated growth, Inter Miami surpassed established MLS franchises such as Los Angeles FC, LA Galaxy, Atlanta United, and New York City FC, clubs that had dominated the league economically and competitively for years.
This phenomenon also reflects the current momentum of MLS as a whole. At present, the combined value of all league franchises has reached $23 billion, underscoring the league’s continued structural growth. Additionally, five teams have already crossed the $1 billion valuation threshold, further cementing MLS as one of the fastest-growing soccer leagues in the world.
A Key Semester for the Miami Project
On the sporting front, Inter Miami is preparing for a demanding schedule. The club will open its MLS season on February 21, when it visits LAFC in a highly anticipated matchup. In addition, the team will compete in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, where they will aim to capture the first international title in club history.
