Montreal sack Courtois after winless start to MLS season
Laurent Courtois has become the first managerial casualty of the 2025 MLS season after parting ways with CF Montreal after just five games.
CF Montreal have sacked head coach Laurent Courtois after failing to win any of their five games at the start of the 2025 MLS season.
Courtois, who arrived at the club in 2022, saw his last game in charge end with a 3-0 defeat to Nashville SC at GEODIS Park at the weekend.
Montreal currently sit bottom of the Eastern Conference and are one of three teams in the division yet to register their first three points of the new campaign.
They have also failed to score in each of their last three league games, while only Orlando City (11) and Toronto FC (12) have conceded more goals than Montreal (nine).
Courtois oversaw an eighth-placed finish with Montreal last season, but saw his team beaten by Atlanta United in the wildcard round of the playoffs.
The 46-year-old took charge of 46 matches across all competitions, winning 12 of those games (D12 L21), averaging a win percentage of just 26.67%.
Assistant coach Marco Donadel will take over as interim head coach, which the club said would be the only change to the remaining coaching staff.
Donadel kicks off his tenure with two road games against the Chicago Fire and the Columbus Crew before returning to the Saputo Stadium to face Charlotte FC.
