Rodrigo De Paul Gives His Answer to Inter Miami: He Wants to Play With Messi in MLS
The Atlético de Madrid midfielder has reportedly accepted Inter Miami’s proposal and is nearing a highly anticipated reunion with Lionel Messi in the United States.
De Paul Ready to Leave Atlético and Embrace New Challenge
All signs point to Rodrigo De Paul making a move from LaLiga to MLS, as reports confirm he has given the green light to Inter Miami’s formal offer. The Argentine midfielder appears close to rejoining Lionel Messi, with whom he shares strong on-field chemistry and a deep personal friendship.
Despite Diego Simeone's appreciation of De Paul’s contributions to Atlético de Madrid, the Spanish club seems open to negotiating his departure this summer—especially since the player has shown no intention of signing a contract extension.
A Strategic Move to Keep Messi at the Club
Inter Miami’s pursuit of De Paul goes beyond sporting ambition. The club believes that his arrival could be instrumental in convincing Messi to extend his contract, which expires later this year. While Messi has been linked with a potential move to Al Ahli, bringing in his trusted “bodyguard” on the pitch could be the key to keeping him in Miami.
Currently, Inter Miami’s three Designated Player slots are filled by Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. For De Paul to join, one of those positions—likely Busquets—would need to be freed.
Talks between Inter Miami and Atlético de Madrid are reportedly progressing well. With the 2026 World Cup around the corner, the MLS offers De Paul not only a fresh challenge but also a platform to maintain his role in Argentina’s national team alongside Messi.
