A car reportedly plowed into a crowd during Liverpool Premier League celebrations
The Premier League title celebration was disrupted by an incident that left several people injured and one person arrested.

What was meant to be a day of joy and pride for Liverpool FC supporters ended in concern and confusion. During the celebration of the Premier League title win, a vehicle struck several pedestrians in the city centre, leaving at least four people injured and prompting a swift response from emergency services.
The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Water Street, near the parade route where the club’s players were passing by on open-top buses in front of thousands of fans. According to Merseyside Police, the vehicle came to a stop after the collision and its driver was arrested at the scene. Authorities have not released any information about the driver’s identity or the cause of the incident, which is currently under investigation.
“We are currently responding to reports of a traffic incident in Liverpool city centre. A car had collided with several pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a man was arrested,” said local police in a statement.
Witnesses described chaotic scenes following the impact. Harry Rashid, one of those present, report for "The Mirror", recounted how a grey car came speeding into the area:
“The vehicle came from our right, suddenly appeared, and hit all the people next to us. You could just hear the ‘pop, pop, pop’ of people being struck by the car. It was chilling.”
At least four people were seen being carried away on stretchers, according to an AFP journalist. The area was quickly cordoned off and remains under police supervision.
A Celebration That Promised to Be Historic
Liverpool was celebrating its first league title since 2020 and the twentieth in its history, with crowds defying the rain to honour the Reds. The parade travelled through the city’s main streets, with players waving from the top of two buses decorated with the slogan “Ours Again” and carrying the Premier League trophy.
While the incident casts a shadow over the event, it does not diminish the team’s sporting achievement. However, it leaves a bitter note on what was expected to be a day of pure joy. The club has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
