Alexander Isak Lead Newcastle’s Surge With Decisive Goals Against Tottenham
Newcastle’s winning streak fuels Champions League aspirations.
Thirteen goals from Swedish striker Alexander Isak, nine of them in the last seven matches, have propelled Newcastle to an impressive five-game winning streak. Their latest triumph came in London, where they defeated Tottenham 2-1, moving to the edge of the Champions League qualification zone in the Premier League.
Under the guidance of Eddie Howe, the team is enjoying a brilliant spell. After defeating Leicester two weeks ago, they’ve notched victories over Ipswich, Aston Villa, Manchester United, and now Tottenham, which has been struggling in the lower mid-table with four winless matches (three losses and a draw).
Isak: The Premier League’s most lethal forward
Alexander Isak has emerged as the Premier League's best striker at the moment, outperforming stars like Egyptian Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Norwegian Erling Haaland of Manchester City. While those two lead the scoring charts with 17 and 14 goals respectively, Isak’s 13 goals have proven more influential, driving Newcastle’s success.
The decisive goal against Tottenham came in the 38th minute. It was a classic center-forward finish: a cross from Valentino Livramento was misjudged by Romanian defender Radu Dragusin, and Isak capitalized by slotting the ball into the net.
Newcastle beats Tottenham to extend winning streak
The game began at a frantic pace. The hosts took an early lead with a header from Dominic Solanke, assisted by Pedro Porro in the 4th minute. However, Newcastle quickly leveled the score just two minutes later, capitalizing on defensive pressure. Bruno Guimaraes intercepted the ball and set up Anthony Gordon, who calmly finished past Brandon Austin.
Eddie Howe’s squad held off Tottenham’s attempts to equalize and maintained their lead until the final whistle. Newcastle now sits fifth in the table, tied on points with Chelsea in fourth and just two points behind Nottingham Forest in third. Meanwhile, Tottenham has dropped to 11th place, seven points away from European competition spots.
Newcastle sets sights high
With Alexander Isak in top form and a cohesive unit under Eddie Howe, the Magpies are well-positioned to fight for a Champions League spot. This winning streak and their star striker’s exceptional performances solidify their status as serious contenders in the Premier League this season.
