Arne Slot Cites Real Madrid to Justify Liverpool’s Poor Performance Against PSG in Champions League
Liverpool manager Arne Slot defended his team’s performance in their defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, stating that “every team has bad games” and using Real Madrid as an example of a team that “always finds a way to win, even when the opponent plays better.”
Arne Slot uses Real Madrid as an example
"If you want to win the Premier League, the League Cup, the Champions League, or the FA Cup, sometimes you need to grind out results in games where you're not playing your best football and have a bit of luck," the Dutch coach explained.
With a 13-point lead at the top of the Premier League, Liverpool could make rotations this Saturday against the bottom-placed team, keeping in mind the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie against PSG at Anfield, where they will defend a narrow one-goal advantage.
Liverpool considering squad rotations
Slot also justified potential changes to the starting lineup due to the high number of matches his team has played in recent months.
"If there were four or five days between matches, I would probably use the same starting XI. But with only two days of rest, we have to manage the workload. It's not like we've played one game in three weeks – we've had almost 50 games in the last three months. When selecting the lineup, you have to consider the quality of the opponent and, most importantly, the fitness of the players."
