Arne Slot Says 'It's Not Fair' to Compare Mo Salah with Messi and Ronaldo
Nobody can doubt Mohamed Salah’s ability, a player who can certainly be considered among the best in the world. However, for his coach, Arne Slot, it is 'unfair' to compare him to figures like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
Salah shone with a goal and an assist in Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Manchester City last weekend, and former club players Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Carragher claimed that the Egyptian is reaching the levels of all-time greats like the Argentine and the Portuguese.
They even placed him as a strong contender for the Ballon d'Or this year. With his standout performance against City, Salah now has 25 goals and 16 assists in 27 Premier League matches during the 2024/25 campaign.
What did Arne Slot say?
When coach Arne Slot was asked if Salah should be in the same category as Messi and Ronaldo, the Dutchman responded: 'It’s so difficult to compare players to each other, and it’s not fair to anyone. Mo has had his own career and has been outstanding. Mo has had some exceptional seasons here at Liverpool, and we hope he can continue this for a longer period, but first he needs to extend his contract. You guys don’t ask me about that anymore, so that’s positive!'.
Salah Could Leave Liverpool
The 32-year-old’s stellar form has been crucial in keeping Liverpool at the top of the table, as the Merseyside club now enjoys an eleven-point lead at the summit. However, the attacker has yet to negotiate a new deal with the club, despite being in the final months of his current contract.
