Could Trent Alexander-Arnold Be Leaving Liverpool?
The English star has been with Liverpool for over 20 years now and could be set to leave the club at the end of this season for the La Liga giants.
Trent Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool’s Academy at six years old, and has been playing for their first team for almost nine years, debuting in the 2016-17 season. Now, with his contract expiring this summer, Alexander-Arnold could be leaving the club.
Rumors of a possible move surfaced when Real Madrid expressed interest in the English defender in late 2024, aiming to sign him during the January transfer window.
However, the Reds declined a January exit for Alexander-Arnold. But conversations among the right-back and the Spanish club seem to have progressed for the summer transfer window, with Alexander-Arnold set to become a free agent and reportedly being interested in a move to La Liga.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s History with Liverpool
Alexander-Arnold made his debut with Liverpool’s first team in 2016, when he was 18 years old. He started playing regularly in the 2017-18 season, making 19 Premier League appearances. Since then, he has been an integral part of their success.
He then played for the Reds in consecutive Champions League finals in 2018 and 2019, helping the team win the tournament in 2019.
In 2019-20, Alexander-Arnold made 38 appearances with Liverpool in the Premier League, when they won the title. In the same season, he also helped secure the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Supercup titles to the club.
Could Trent Alexander-Arnold Really Leave Liverpool?
In January, Real Madrid made an initial offer of €10 million and increased bids of up to €25 million for the player. Liverpool turned down the offer as they had no interest in selling him in January, as the club is focused on winning Premier League and Champions League titles and currently lead the rankings in both competitions.
With his contract expiring at the end of the 2024-25 season, Los Blancos are confident they can sign Alexander-Arnold in the summer. Meanwhile, Liverpool also remains confident in renewing the right-back’s contract.
Real Madrid and Liverpool have both reportedly offered him contracts worth €90 million. Doubts remain on whether Alexander-Arnold will actually make the move, but it remains a possibility as Liverpool is reportedly looking for new signings to replace the defender in case he decides to leave.
