Daniel Muñoz Out of Colombia's Squad Due to Injury!
The Colombian national team lost defender Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace for the matches against Bolivia and Chile due to a muscular injury sustained in the Premier League match over the weekend against Liverpool, which his team lost 0-1.
The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) stated that the 28-year-old defender "will not be able to join the squad for the matches on dates 9 and 10 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, due to a muscular injury that prevents him from being at one hundred percent to face the upcoming matches."
Muñoz, one of the key figures in the Colombian team, has been replaced in the squad by Andrés Felipe Román, a full-back for Atlético Nacional who scored a brace over the weekend, leading his team to a 2-1 victory over Deportivo Pasto in the Colombian league.
To cover his absence, Lorenzo also has the experienced Santiago Arias in the squad, a former Atlético de Madrid player who currently plays for Brazil's Bahía.
Additionally, coach Néstor Lorenzo will have to deal with the absence of injured central defenders Carlos Cuesta (Genk-BEL) and Yerson Mosquera (Wolverhampton-GBR), as well as forward Rafael Borré (Internacional-BRA).
Forward Jhon Jader Durán from Aston Villa was included in the list of call-ups but will not be able to play against the Verde due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Colombia is training in Cochabamba until October 10th, when they will travel to El Alto to face Bolivia, and then to Barranquilla to play at home against Chile the following Tuesday.
Lorenzo's team occupies the second position in the qualifiers with 16 points after 8 rounds and comes from a 2-1 victory over Argentina, the world and Copa América champions.
