Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez Wins The Best Goalkeeper of the Year Award for the Second Consecutive Time
Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez has been recognized once again as the world’s best goalkeeper at the FIFA The Best awards, winning the honor for the second year in a row, just like he did in 2022. The Argentine goalkeeper, who plays for Aston Villa, stood out with his excellent performances throughout 2024, being key to Argentina’s victory in the Copa América and to Aston Villa's historic qualification for the Champions League.
In the 2024 Copa América, Martínez was crucial, keeping a clean sheet in six of the seven matches and conceding only one goal. At the club level, he had a standout season, recording nine clean sheets in the Premier League and helping Aston Villa finish in fourth place, securing the club’s return to the Champions League after 40 years.
Global Recognition and Personal Achievements
Dibu beat out other top goalkeepers like Ederson, Unai Simón, and Gianluigi Donnarumma, solidifying his place as one of the best in the world. In addition, in October 2024, he had already received the Lev Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d'Or gala, recognizing his outstanding work between the posts.
With this victory, Martínez continues to stay at the top of his game and remains one of the key pillars for both Argentina and Aston Villa.
