Jhon Durán Leaves Aston Villa to Join Cristiano: The Most Expensive Signing of the Market
The Colombian forward is heading to Saudi Arabia after Aston Villa said yes to a staggering offer from Al Nassr.
Aston Villa was initially reluctant to part ways with Colombian forward Jhon Durán during the winter transfer window. However, a series of offers, culminating in a staggering bid from Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia, has changed everything.
An Irresistible Offer
Sources close to the deal reveal that Al Nassr, the club captained by Cristiano Ronaldo, will pay $83 million for the 21-year-old forward, with an additional $14 million in performance-related bonuses, totaling around $97 million. The offer proved too good for Villa to turn down, making it nearly impossible to say no.
Durán’s desire to leave was the key factor that sealed his move. He underwent a medical examination in London on Wednesday, finalizing the deal. Before Al Nassr's offer, several top clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, had shown interest in the player. PSG was prepared to engage in talks, but the deal was expected to be pursued in the summer.
The influx of Saudi money sped up the transfer process. Aston Villa had hoped to retain Durán, considering him a cornerstone of their future plans. The club had even renewed his contract just a few months ago. However, the financial package offered by Al Nassr was simply too lucrative to ignore.
