Kepa Arrizabalaga Finds New Team After Waiting for Real Madrid
The Spanish goalkeeper waited until the end in case Real Madrid called, but the call never came. He will now play on loan at Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga will join Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season, with no mandatory purchase option for Andoni Iraola's team, as reported by EFE.
Kepa, who was not in the plans of a Chelsea squad with nine goalkeepers on their books, spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, where he shared the starting position with Andrey Lunin until Thibaut Courtois returned. During his time with Los Blancos, he won both the Spanish La Liga and the Champions League.
The Spanish player, who is under contract with Chelsea until June 2025, joined the Premier League in 2018 from Athletic Club for €80 million and has since alternated between being a starter and sitting on the bench at Stamford Bridge.
At Bournemouth, Kepa is expected to be the first-choice goalkeeper, competing with Mark Travers and Neto.
The Spanish goalkeeper will undergo a medical with the 'Cherries' on Tuesday.
The Call That Never Came
Real Madrid had considered Kepa as an option in case Lunin left, but that has not happened (so far), and the Spanish goalkeeper, needing to find a new team, chose to join Bournemouth.
