Manchester City Announces a New Signing for $35 Million
Manchester City continues its January signings, confirming on Tuesday the arrival of center-back Vitor Reis from Palmeiras.
Manchester City announced on Tuesday the signing of center-back Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for $35 million.
The Brazilian defender will join City immediately, despite Palmeiras’ efforts to retain him until after the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
Reis is City’s second signing of the winter transfer window, following the arrival of Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens. However, he won’t be the last addition, as the Sky Blues are set to announce the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush for approximately $82 million.
Pep Guardiola is looking to strengthen a squad that has been plagued by injuries this season, with 15 players sidelined for more than two weeks. The most notable injury is to Rodrigo Hernández, who suffered an ACL tear in September.
Guardiola himself admitted that the team failed to strengthen adequately in the summer transfer window, when only Savinho and Ilkay Gündogan were brought in.
Reis, a youth international for Brazil, has played 18 league matches for Palmeiras and becomes the Brazilian club’s third major sale in recent months, following the transfers of Endrick to Real Madrid and Willian Estevão to Chelsea.
