Manchester United Set to Part Ways with Casemiro and Rashford
Manchester United has identified Casemiro and Marcus Rashford as the key candidates to leave the club, aiming to ease their financial burden and avoid penalties for breaching Financial Fair Play. This decision is a crucial part of the sports restructuring planned by Rúben Amorim.
Casemiro and Rashford are the highest earners at United. The Brazilian midfielder earns £350,000 per week (around €417,000), while the English forward takes home £300,000 (around €360,000). The next highest is club captain Bruno Fernandes, who earns the same salary as Rashford.
Rashford: On the Outskirts
Rashford, who hasn’t played a single minute in the last 12 matches, is increasingly distant from the team. His departure seems almost certain, though his high salary and long contract (until 2028) are significant hurdles. Moreover, English clubs are facing difficulties with Financial Fair Play, the player has no interest in moving to Saudi Arabia, and Barcelona is grappling with financial struggles.
Rashford’s relationship with Amorim has been tense since the player said in December that he was “ready for a new challenge,” a comment not well received by the Portuguese coach, who has not used him since. Amorim even stated he would prefer to play a 63-year-old goalkeeper coach rather than a player who “doesn’t give his best.” If Rashford wants to leave in the winter, he’ll need to lower his salary expectations or accept that Manchester United will cover part of his wages.
Casemiro: On the Edge
Meanwhile, Casemiro has seen his role diminish this season due to Amorim's new tactical system, which favors a five-defender setup. The Brazilian, who was once a key figure, has only played in two of the last ten Premier League matches and has been excluded from the Europa League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup. At 32 years old, and after facing harsh criticism for his lack of match fitness, his future at United is increasingly uncertain.
Restructuring Underway
If Manchester United manages to offload Casemiro and Rashford, it would significantly reduce their wage bill and put them in a better position to make the necessary investments next summer. This would also relieve pressure on Financial Fair Play, which is especially crucial after the club admitted to losing over £300 million in the past three years.
To counter the financial situation, the club has taken measures such as increasing ticket prices, cutting benefits for children and pensioners, and laying off hundreds of staff members, including legends like Alex Ferguson.
