Manchester United Turns Old Trafford Into the "Theater of Dreams" for Their Rivals
Manchester United has unlocked a new record, racking up as many as eight defeats this season in the Premier League
Last Thursday, there was euphoria among the Manchester United fans at Old Trafford after the madness that unfolded at the end of the match against Olympique de Lyon. However, it only seemed like an oasis in the desert, because back to their duties in the Premier League, they suffered another loss in front of their home crowd—further confirming that Old Trafford has become the “Theater of Dreams” for their opponents.

Manchester United sets a new record… for defeats
With just five games remaining in the current Premier League season, Manchester United has accumulated 38 points… and projections suggest they won’t go past 43 by the end of the campaign. To get a sense of the club’s dramatic decline, their worst Premier League season until now was last year, when they finished with 60 points.
Of the 38 points Manchester United currently has, 21 have come at home. So, more than half. Still, that hasn’t been enough to avoid recording their worst home season since the Premier League began—with eight defeats at Old Trafford. In fact, with two more home games left against West Ham and Aston Villa, they could break their all-time record of nine home defeats at Old Trafford… which dates all the way back to the 1962/1963 season.
Manchester United has a plan
If it weren’t for the poor performance of the three clubs promoted to the Premier League last season, the numbers Manchester United is putting up would be typical of a team fighting to avoid relegation to the Championship… not of the club with the most league titles in English football history—which, by the way, is about to be tied in a matter of days by Liverpool.
“We’ll deal with it at the end of the season. We have a plan and we talk about it every day. But the season isn’t over yet, so we have to focus on that,” said Rúben Amorim after the match. That plan is focused on trying to win the Europa League to qualify for the next Champions League. A textbook all-in… to try and salvage Manchester United’s worst Premier League season ever.
